While looking forward to the NVIDIA 470 series Linux driver for Wayland support improvements, before getting there NVIDIA is first introducing the 465 driver series. Today marks the first publicly available NVIDIA 465 Linux driver beta.

NVIDIA's 465.19.01 Linux driver release brings many bug fixes but also some new features/improvements. The NVIDIA 465.19.01 Linux beta highlights include:

- New Vulkan extensions of KHR_synchronization2, KHR_workgroup_memory_explicit_layout, and KHR_zero_initialize_workgroup_memory.

- NVIDIA's Vulkan driver now supports linear images for use with host-visible video memory.

- Runtime D3 power management is enabled by default on supported notebooks with Ampere GPUs or newer.

- The NVIDIA Linux driver installer now installs and enables new NVIDIA systemd units for enabling "advanced suspend, hibernate and resume functionality".

- The NVIDIA X driver now allows OpenGL applications running on an X.Org Server that has left the active VT to now continue running but at a capped frame-rate.

- Many bug fixes.

Separately, the rest of the NVIDIA RTX 30 line-up will (finally) see Linux gaming and compute results finished up in the near future:
