Linux 4.6 Adding Synaptics RMI4 To Better Handle Touchscreens, Touchpads
Perhaps most significant about the input updates for Linux 4.6 is support for the Synaptics RMI4 protocol. RMI4 is the native protocol used by all current Synaptics devices including touchscreens and touchpads. The RMI4 support is there while in later Linux kernel releases they will switch devices to using RMI4 rather than HID/PS2 protocol emulation.
The input pull also has BYD PS/2 touchpad protocol support, MELFAS MIP4 touchscreen driver, and an assortment of other fixes. More details on the Linux 4.6 input updates can be found via this pull request.
