Allwinner Plays Around With Licenses On Its Media Codec
Allwinner has yet to clarify their license position on their media codec code or fully open up their encode/decode library for that matter when it's fairly clear they're violating the GPL and recently they've been trying to cover it up by obfuscating their binaries.
Since the previous article on Allwinner's dirty tricks, they've cleaned up their media-codec Git repository a tiny bit.
Allwinner has changed the license to a reported LGPLv2.1 instead of LGPLv2.
Allwinner also restored the licenses on some OMX core files, which were actually copyrighted by The Linux Foundation. These several files were "Copyright (c) 2011-2012 The Linux Foundation. All rights reserved." Originally though Allwinner stripped the copyright/license notices from these OpenMAX files though now they've restored them.
On Friday they also cleaned up some license text.
It's nothing too significant or a big step forward for Allwinner, but at least they're improving a tiny bit...
