AMD Software: PRO Edition 22.Q4 for Linux Released
A little more than a week ago AMD quietly released their Radeon Pro Software for Enterprise Linux 22.Q4 driver, also advertised more recently as the AMD Software: PRO Edition 22.Q4 for Linux driver package. With most Linux enthusiasts and gamers happily using the upstream open-source components in the mainline Linux kernel and Mesa, the new quarterly release slipped under the radar until now.
The AMD Software: PRO Edition 22.Q4 for Linux is the latest quarterly update to their packaged Linux driver stack intended for enterprise use and consisting of both the "Open" and "PRO" driver components -- the latter including the few still relevant proprietary user-space driver bits. The 22.Q4 enterprise Linux driver is officially supporting RHEL 9.0 / 8.6 / 7.9 (and the CentOS / Rocky / AlmaLinux offspring), Ubuntu 22.04, Ubuntu 20.04.4 LTS, and SUSE Linux Enterprise SLED/SLES 15 SP4. Outside of the usual RHEL / Ubuntu / SUSE enterprise Linux distributions, your mileage may vary but for most users these days simply running the latest upstream open-source components is the best choice.
As usual the public change-log/release notes for the AMD Linux packaged drivers is rather bare... The 22.Q4 Linux update simply notes these issues as having been fixed:
Besides that the PRO and Open driver components are surely built from their latest internal/upstream sources and whatever else may have been picked up over the past few months. The public release notes for the AMD Linux driver just remains notoriously light on details.
Those wanting to download this newest AMD Software: PRO Edition / Radeon Pro Software for Enterprise for Linux 22.Q4 driver release can find them at AMD.com.
When it comes to the latest Radeon Software for Linux (non-enterprise) packaged driver release the latest version remains the v22.20 build from 14 July. Presumably once the Radeon RX 7900 series graphics cards are shipping in mid-December is when they will issue a new consumer packaged Linux driver release.
