RADV Vulkan Gaming Getting Closer To RadeonSI OpenGL Performance

With Serious Sam 3: BFE on the Fusion Engine, the performance is roughly the same between OpenGL and Vulkan. With Croteam's Vulkan support it's been very good -- and with Talos Principle was the Vulkan launch title -- with their engine being tuned well for Vulkan. We've seen this on the NVIDIA side too with good Vulkan performance out of Croteam's various updated games.

Lastly with Talos Principle, the RADV Vulkan performance is noticeably faster than with RadeonSI OpenGL for the Polaris and Vega graphics cards tested.

As some extra numbers, here is how F1 2017 is running on Mesa Git with RADV:

F1 2017 was the first commercial Linux game only having Vulkan support, so obviously no OpenGL reference points. But ran the test anyways for those wondering how that performance is looking.

Overall, RADV continues making a lot of headway and particularly for the Polaris GPUs the Vulkan performance is getting much closer to the performance potential found with RadeonSI OpenGL. Vega is also making progress too and just days ago was considered Vulkan 1.0 conformant while more performance optimizations are still needed for that latest-generation GPU architecture.
