The AMD Radeon R9 Fury Is Currently A Disaster On Linux
BioShock Infinite is just one of many Steam Linux games with known slow performance for the AMD Catalyst Linux driver. BioShock Infinite was ported to Linux earlier in the year and even multiple Catalyst Linux driver releases later the NVIDIA performance reigns supreme. Thus with Catalyst 15.7 we have a situation where the Radeon R9 Fury is performing the speed of a GeForce GTX 780 Ti and slower than a GeForce GTX 970... The GeForce GTX 970 sells for around $350 USD, which is $200 less than the Radeon R9 Fury!
The two Metro Redux games have been on Linux since the end of last year. While BioShock Infinite on Catalyst Linux looked bad with its performance being lower than a GeForce GTX 970, with Metro 2033 Redux the performance is on par with a GeForce GTX 960! The GTX 960 is a $200 graphics card and at 3840 x 2160 for Metro 2033 Redux via PTS is running this way.
With Metro Last Redux, at least the Catalyst driver seems to be a bit better optimized with it now running just behind a GeForce GTX 970. At least the R9 Fury is performing faster than the R9 290...
