Examination:

It made news late last year when OCZ had announced the XTC -- Xtreme Thermal Convection -- heatspreaders, and this cooling contraption continues to be widely accepted by the enthusiast community. The focus of the XTC design is to optimize the thermal management of the memory by eliminating areas of dead air. As we had done when receiving early samples of the Xtreme Thermal Convection heatspreaders, we had disassembled them. Basically we classified them as being a honeycomb wire that was attached to the RAM ICs using thermal tape, and the mesh was accompanied by a nice outer edge.

Looking at the stickers attached to the DDR2 memory heatspreaders, the part number is OCZ2P10002GK, and the other specifications include PC2-8000, 1GB EL Dual CH, Platinum XTC, and 5-5-5-15 timings. For those seeking even a higher-level of performance, the Extreme Edition of these OCZ modules are capable of running at 4-5-4-15 timings while at 1000MHz. Removing the heatspreaders, underneath we were greeted by 64M x 8 dual-sided modules. Marked on these chips was a label of 6CD22 D9GKX. The RAM ICs used by the OCZ DDR2 PC2-8000 Platinum XTC Enhanced Latency kit are Micron Revision D.
