The x86 EFI changes for Linux 4.2 were mailed in this morning and indeed they offer the EFI System Resource Table support as necessary for supporting UEFI 2.5+ system firmware updates.

With the work led by Red Hat / Fedora, the Linux desktop is working towards being able to easily do UEFI/BIOS system firmware updates in a clean, reliable, and easy-to-use manner on hardware that supports UEFI v2.5 or newer. The EFI System Resource Table was part of the UEFI 2.5 specification and is responsible for providing a list of system components that accept firmware upgrades via the UEFI Capsule Update specification.

With Linux 4.2, the ESRT will be exposed to user-space via sysfs. This work along with other EFI improvements are part of this pull request.
