Valve Releases New CS: Global Offensive Trailer
The official release of Valve's much-anticipated Counter-Strike: Global Offensive title is set to happen on the 21st of August. In anticipation of the launch, Valve has released a new CS:GO trailer.
Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is the latest game in Valve's wildly-successful Counter-Strike franchise built atop their impressive Source Engine. CS:GO has been in beta for a number of months already while next week will mark its official release. This first person shooter is initially being released for Windows, OS X, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360, but a native Linux version will very likely come once Valve begins shipping their Steam client and Source-based games for Linux.
The first game Valve will ship for Linux is obviously Left 4 Dead 2 but with the Source Engine now running very well on Linux with OpenGL, Valve's other popular titles will hopefully follow quickly. Valve has yet to communicate their priorities in terms of the titles that will be ported next, but Counter-Stike: Global Offensive is likely near the top of the list due to the freshness of the title that it would likely make the most sense in terms of driving sales.
So unless Valve gets fed up with Linux users complaining about drivers, decide Linux gamers are a bunch of freeloaders and open-source zealots, Gabe Newell changing his mind about Windows 8, or that Linux gaming can't produce positive results, here's a game that will hopefully be available natively on Linux in the coming months:
Until a native client arrives, it looks like Counter-Strike: Global Offensive might work under Wine.
