ET: Quake Wars - NVIDIA Performance

While they have been able to manage id Software's Doom 3 and Quake 4, the NVIDIA GeForce 6600GT and 8500GT were both too slow for running Enemy Territory: Quake Wars on Linux at 1280 x 1024 with our high quality settings. On the other hand, the GeForce 8600GT 256MB, which is NVIDIA's $120~150 USD GPU, had no problems running ET: Quake Wars at a modest 40 frames per second during our tests. Anything slower than a NVIDIA GeForce 8600GT will cripple the Enemy Territory: Quake Wars experience unless running on lower settings, while the GeForce 8800 series is able to shine with this latest Linux-native game. We'll be reporting the ATI Radeon benchmarks from Enemy Territory: Quake Wars upon the availability of the fglrx 8.42 driver, but be sure to share your ET:QW results in the Phoronix Forums. We will also be adopting Enemy Territory: Quake Wars for benchmarking in future articles (including more NVIDIA benchmarks).
