When it came to the Chrome 104 and Firefox 103 web browser performance, the Core i9 12900K was leading across the board for these Linux browser benchmarks.

With a modern Linux software stack, the Core i9 12900K tended to deliver faster builds of various open-source projects than the Ryzen 9 5950X.

But while the Core i9 12900K was delivering faster software builds, it was consuming much more power -- the Ryzen 9 5950X at around 140 Watts during a "allmodconfig" Linux kernel build to the i9-12900K at 202 Watts with a peak of 213 Watts. Also keep in mind the Core i9 12900K was equipped with DDR5 system memory to the Ryzen 5000 series being limited to DDR4.

Intel Alder Lake has long delivered stellar Python and PHP performance while it will be interesting to see how the situation plays out with Raptor Lake and Zen 4.
