Amazon, Clear, Debian, Gentoo, Red Hat, SUSE & Ubuntu Performance On The EC2 Cloud

First up are the scientific tests of Rodinia.

Amazon's own Linux AMI was by far the slowest while Clear Linux out-of-the-box was about twice as fast as the other tested Linux distributions with this test. (OpenMP was used for all of the tests, the OpenCL reporting difference in the compiler flags can be safely ignored just due to some distributions pulling in the OpenCL headers present.)

While in Rodinia's fluid dynamics solver, Debian 9.2 managed to secure a slight lead over Clear Linux while the other four distributions were noticeably slower than the rest.

The streamcluster results were very close between these distributions running in the cloud with only a one second difference between Clear Linux and Amazon Linux AMI.

The Golang benchmark results were mixed with Debian 9.2 and Amazon Linux AMI now leading in these cases.

Debian 9.2 secured another win with John The Ripper's Blowfish crypto performance.
