ATI Radeon HD 5450 On Linux

Unigine Heaven should represent close to how Unigine's OilRush game is expected to perform and here the Radeon HD 5450 topped out at just 5.4 FPS when at 800 x 600 and when averaging the four resolutions its average FPS was just 3.7.

We were curious to know how the passive heatsink on this Sapphire graphics card was cooling the Radeon HD 5450, so we also ran some thermal benchmarks via the Phoronix Test Suite as Unigine Tropics was being run. Below are the GPU die temperatures for all graphics cards except for the Radeon HD 4650, as its temperature was not exposed via OverDrive.

On average, the GPU die temperature of the passively cooled Radeon HD 5450 was not as high as the actively cooled but higher-performing ATI Radeon HD 5770, but it was higher than the other tested graphics cards. When looking at the Radeon HD 5450 line you can also see that its temperature continued climbing throughout the entire testing process and had this OpenGL test continued running longer we would have likely experienced the Radeon HD 5450 getting hotter than the Radeon HD 5770 at 75°C.
