Threadripper PRO 7995WX platform overview

The configurations for this article based on the CPUs, available, etc were the following:

- Ryzen 9 7900X
- Ryzen 9 7900X3D
- Ryzen 9 7950X
- Ryzen 9 7950X3D
- Threadripper 3970X
- Threadripper 3990X
- Threadripper PRO 5965WX
- Threadripper 7970X
- Threadripper 7980X
- Threadripper PRO 7995WX
- Core i9 14900K
- Xeon Gold 6421N
- Xeon Max 9480
- Xeon Platinum 8480+

Each CPU was tested at its maximum rated memory channel configuration and frequency. Within the Threadripper 7980X / 7970X benchmarks are some additional configurations plus testing the Xeon Scalable Sapphire Rapids CPUs at both 4 and 8 channel memory, etc. But with the Threadripper PRO 7995WX running at 8 memory channels too, the 4 channel Xeon Scalable results would be rather redundant.

Most of the same benchmarks were run on this larger workstation in looking at areas from HPC to creator workloads, video encoding, code compilation, etc. During the benchmarking process the CPU power consumption was also monitored using the RAPL/PowerCap interfaces.

There are not any performance per dollar metrics for this article due to not having received any finalized pricing on the HP Z6 G5 A or other new PRO WRX90 motherboards. For DIY builds, the Threadripper PRO 7995WX will appear to retail for around ~$9999 USD based on early listings. Even at $10k, the Threadripper PRO 7995WX on a CPU basis will still be cheaper than the likes of the Xeon Platinum 8480+.
