Obviously in single-threaded workloads like FLAC audio encoding, you won't find much benefit out of a Threadripper WX processor unless you plan on multi-tasking or carrying out encoding on many audio files in parallel.

Hackbench is one of the Linux kernel scheduler benchmarks and was fun to see it handle 32 processes and complete in less than a half minute. The Threadripper 2990WX could be quite useful to many Linux kernel developers.

The Core i9 7980XE continues to be left in the dust compared to the Threadripper 2990WX, but the "Core i9 9900X" is rumored to be coming soon... It will be very interesting to see how Intel responds to the success of AMD's Threadripper 2.

Intel's Skylake and newer CPUs have had the advantage with OpenSSL signing performance due to their newer AVX capabilities, but the Threadripper 2990WX does manage to still beat out the i9-7980XE by a hefty margin while still being the cheaper processor.
