With HPCG the Amazon Linux 2 performance already had a slight advantage over Ubuntu 20.04 LTS and CentOS 8 while now with Amazon Linux 2022 is another slight bump in its favor.

There wasn't too much variation between the distributions with a NAMD simulation run, but Amazon Linux 2022 did appear to slightly regress in this case.

The OpenJDK Java performance can be a bit mixed depending upon the individual workload and other factors, but AL2022 was pointing in the right direction.

Amazon Linux 2 is on Linux 5.10 like AL2022 at the moment, but the newer GCC compiler with AL2022 was helping some of the application workloads especially for this latest-generation Ice Lake instance. It depends upon the software under test though for how much the newer GNU Compiler Collection will help out.

Understandably though, the newer GCC compiler can mean longer build times though due to the additional optimization passes and other attributes of the newer compiler.
