Amazon Linux 2022 was showing off some nice gains with Redis.

The newer PHP package by default with Amazon Linux 2022 also helped with the out-of-the-box performance. Granted, with Amazon Linux 2 you can manually opt for different versions of select packages like PHP, but at least for the default/out-of-the-box configuration, AL2022 is in better shape.

The newer Python 3.9 build was also making AWS' Linux distribution more competitive.

Long story short, across a variety of workloads the Amazon Linux 2022 performance is looking up and competitive with the likes of Ubuntu and CentOS. This Fedora-based Linux distribution has been working out well in my initial testing over the past weeks. Stay tuned for seeing how it compares to the likes of Intel's Clear Linux for maximizing the performance potential of the cloud. Also quickly coming up is the likes of Ubuntu 22.04 as the next Long Term Support release but with newer packages and features for advancing Canonical's cloud journey. If there is sufficient interest other comparison tests will be conducted albeit unfortunately limited by cloud costs.
