Conclusion:

Meticulously examining our performance results from the 1GB/2GB memory comparison, it certainly came down to the wire when it comes to which memory kit could pull away with the win from our particular set of benchmarks. Although we ran both sets of modules at identical speeds and timings, there was no decisive winner in our traditional real-world tests. In our various RAMSpeed v2.4.0 tests the OCZ EB DDR PC-4000 2 x 1024MB Platinum generally walked away with an approximate 100-200MB/s advantage where as in our gaming benchmarks such as Enemy Territory there was less than a one-frame difference. As more developers begin to create additional Linux games and applications that can better utilize the additional memory, these results will certainly separate. Of course, this is not to say a 2GB+ memory capacity is rubbish as programmers, graphics artists, video editors, servers, and a host of other trades can benefit from this expanded system memory. As an example of where the additional system memory can truly benefit, we have performed a specialized test not normally bundled into our memory testing and that is ab, or better known as Apache Benchmark, which is designed to accurately test the abilities of running an Apache HTTP server. In our testing today, we generated a 34.1KB HTML file and while running Apache 2.0.54, we had ab perform 200,000 requests in the benchmarking session with 1,000 requests at a time (ab -c 1000 -n 200000 http://localhost/test.html). The results from this additional benchmark can be found above. In addition to its exceptional level of performance, it comes with the overclocking and timing potential we have come to expect from OCZ Technology. Although not everyone may have the compulsion at this time for 2GB of system memory, the need is coming, so if you're still running a current generation AMD machine or older Intel platform you might as well append OCZ's EB DDR PC-4000 2 x 1024MB Platinum Edition memory to your Christmas list this holiday season.
