DRM Gets More Linux 3.13 Updates; VMware DRI3
For those keeping track of Linux 3.13 kernel activity, another DRM subsystem pull update was submitted during this merge window.
The latest DRM pull request isn't too exciting but it does allow for VMware's virtual GPU driver stack to work with DRI3 (obviously when paired with X.Org Server 1.15 and other updated user-space components). The rest of the changes in this "DRM fixes" request can be found via the mailing list. The most important fix though were sysfs kernel changes that broke hot-plugging support in user-space, but that's addressed with this brand new code.
David Airlie wrote in the pull request, "was going to leave this until post -rc1 but sysfs fixes broke hotplug in userspace, so I had to fix it harder, otherwise a set of pulls from intel, radeon and vmware, the vmware/ttm changes are bit larger but since its early and they are unlikely to break anything else I put them in, it lets vmware work with dri3."
The main pull request for the Direct Rendering Manager code landed a lot of new features in Linux 3.13. Besides the DRM work, the Linux 3.13 kernel will provide many new features for users.
