Super Talent MasterDrive OX SATA 2.0 SSD

Years ago we looked at Super Talent DDR2 memory at Phoronix and with what was tested we ran into problems when overclocking, motherboard compatibility issues, and some very sticky heatsinks. The experience was not the best, but the memory did work as intended. Nearly three years have passed and today we have moved on to look at the Super Talent MasterDrive OX Serial ATA 2.0 Solid State Drive. These Super Talent SSDs are MLC NAND Flash based and come in sizes down to 16GB, which leads to prices lower than many other SSDs on the market, but how do they perform?

The Super Talent MasterDrive OX 16GB SSD arrived in a large cardboard container. The facade was covered in a paper sleep that advertised the rugged, low power, and silent traits of SSDs along with advertising other features for this SSD on the back of the packaging. When opening up the container, the 2.5" SATA 2.0 SSD was sitting amid a giant block of foam. The solid state drive was encased within an anti-static bag and then there was plenty of foam surrounding the product to ensure it would arrive safely, even though SSDs lack any moving parts. Super Talent also includes a simple user's manual with the FTM16GL25H. Besides the 16GB version there are other varieties in 32GB, 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB sizes.
