Arch Linux, Clear Linux & Ubuntu Against Windows 10/11 On Intel Rocket Lake
Out of 102 tests ran in total, Intel's Clear Linux was the first place leader 66% of the time followed by Windows 10 21H1 with first place finishes 10% of the time.
Windows 11 22000.100 was the slowest operating system in 72% of the benchmarks. We'll see when Windows 11 stable ships whether the performance is still subpar to Windows 10 or whether the current Windows Insider Preview build performance is impaired by current debug options or other factors. In any case, more Windows 11 AMD/Intel benchmarks against Linux later in the year.
If taking the geometric mean of all the benchmarks that successfully ran on all six operating systems, the Linux distributions all performed measurably faster overall than Windows 10 or 11. The fastest overall was Intel's Clear Linux, but before loading up this Intel Linux distribution on an i9-11900K or other desktop CPU, keep in mind Intel hasn't been focusing as much on the desktop side of Clear over the past two years (among other possible shifts given the leadership changes going on at the company) and other factors to consider like available package selection, long term support, etc. Arch Linux followed the Clear Linux performance followed then by Ubuntu Linux in this round of benchmarking.
