Having XMir in place and the unity-system-compositor resulted in a very noticeable performance hit for the Nouveau driver on NVIDIA graphics hardware. As noted already, running some Linux OpenGL games through XMir with the Nouveau graphics driver would result in crashes.

Canonical hasn't begun optimizing the performance of Mir -- and there will surely be some improvements, especially with composition bypass and other forthcoming features -- so at Phoronix we will be back with plenty more Mir performance benchmarks over the coming weeks and months.
