When running 64-bit Ubuntu, the text rendering performance with the Java 2D Microbenchmark had actually dropped slightly.

The LAME MP3 encoding performance had improved on Ubuntu 9.04 64-bit to the point that it was now faster than the encode time on Mac OS X 10.5.6. Ubuntu 64-bit wound up being about 4% faster than Mac OS X where as Ubuntu 32-bit was 9% slower than Mac OS X.

With a 64-bit Linux installation, the Ogg encoding was also faster than on Mac OS X. This time the 64-bit Jaunty Jackalope was about 25% faster.
