The VP8 libvpx video encoding performance with VirtualBox was outright awful compared to the bare metal and QEMU-KVM results.

Building the Linux kernel was several times slower with VirtualBox over the bare metal and QEMU-KVM results even though VirtualBox was configured the same as the KVM virtual machine.

More Ubuntu 14.04 virtualization benchmarks will be carried out when the final release is near of this Linux Long-Term Support release, at which time other hypervisors like Xen will also be tested and hopefully VirtualBox will be in better shape to have a competitive showing.
