Are Open-Source GPU Drivers Sufficient For 4K Linux Gaming?
The same hardware was used as last week's comparison. The open-source Radeon tests were done from the Ubuntu 15.04 installation with the Linux 4.2 Git kernel and Mesa 10.7-devel.
Running the demanding Unigine Valley test at 4K on the open-source drivers led the R9 290 to averaging out at 13 FPS while the Catalyst 15.7 driver was at 21, an advantage of more than 60%.
Here's some Unigine Valley 1080p results for comparison.
