Examination:

The Noctua NH-U12DX is made mostly of aluminum with a dynamic fin shape and a set of three copper heatpipes that run from the copper base of the heatsink up through the many fins. There are soldered joints and nickel-plating on this heatsink. A single NH-U12DX without fan weighs 600 grams and its dimensions are 126 x 65 x 155 mm. A Noctua 120mm fan is included and is all that's needed for standard operation, however, if you so choose, a second 120mm fan can be mounted on the opposite side to pull additional air through the heatsink.

If two Noctua NH-U12DX heatsinks are employed for a dual Intel Xeon configuration, up to three fans can be used and will all align in a single air-duct-like manner permitting the motherboard does not follow a non-standard design. Noctua's SecuFirm2 mounting system allows the Xeon heatsink to be installed atop a Socket 771 or Socket 604. The heatsink is able to use the standard retention frame on the back of these Intel server motherboards, so removal of the motherboard is not required nor any other mounting hardware has to be installed.
