Noctua NH-U12DX Xeon Heatsink
Installation:
We had installed a single Noctua NH-U12DX onto a Tyan Tempest i5000VS motherboard. The processor in use was an Intel Xeon 5060 CPU. Installing this heatsink was a breeze and only took a few minutes. After removing the old Socket 771 heatsink, the NH-U12DX was quickly installed after applying new thermal paste. The Noctua NF-P12 fan was setup to blow the air through the Xeon heatsink towards the top of the SilverStone Fortress FT01.
Performance:
After installing the Noctua NH-U12DX in the Tyan Tempest i5000VS system with a Xeon 5060 processor, we proceeded to run a few thermal tests comparing the performance to a Dynatron H6EG heatsink. The H6EG has a 60mm dual ball bearing fan and copper base with copper fins. On the software side we were running Ubuntu 8.10 and we ran our thermal tests using the Phoronix Test Suite. We monitored the CPU and system temperatures while the system was idling for 10 minutes followed by looking at the load temperatures by running GraphicsMagick in the Phoronix Test Suite batch mode.
