Code compilation speed is one of the real-world areas affected by these mitigations when it comes to compiling large code-bases that in turn means a lot of I/O activity. The Core i5-9400F was a very minor improvement over the i5-8400 for compiling the Linux kernel, GCC, and LLVM and saw similar hits as a result of the mitigations.

The Hackbench Linux kernel scheduler benchmark was showing similar overhead between the two systems for their mitigated performance.

Some GNU C Library (glibc) calls remain similarly impacted from these mitigations with no real difference between the two Core i5 processors benchmarked.
