AMD Radeon RX 480 On Linux

With the synthetic Furmark OpenGL benchmark, the Radeon RX 480 performance was between a GTX 970 and GTX 980 when using AMDGPU-PRO or between a GTX 960 and GTX 970 on the fully open-source Linux driver.

GpuTest's synthetic triangle test comes down to a good indication of video memory speed, which is why the R9 Fury performs so well here with its HBM memory. The Radeon RX 480 with the triangle test came up just shy of the GeForce GTX 980 Ti.

Onto some OpenCL compute testing, Mixbench with its single prevision run for the RX 480 came in just between the GTX 980 and GTX 980 Ti. That's with the AMDGPU-PRO driver stack as the Clover-based OpenCL support with RadeonSI failed to run our OpenCL benchmarks.

For the SHOC MD5 Hash OpenCL benchmark the RX 480 performance about matched the GeForce GTX 970.
