AMD FirePro V3800 & FirePro V5800

Having already tested the AMD FirePro V8800 under Linux we did not expect for any problems when testing the FirePro V3800/V5800 graphics cards, and fortunately that was the case. We used the same fglrx 8.73.3 press driver with the OpenGL version string of 4.0.9833. This was in the same configuration of the dual AMD Shanghai workstation we used for the V8800 testing earlier this month. This included Ubuntu 9.10 (x86_64) with the Linux 2.6.31 kernel, GNOME 2.28.1 desktop, and X.Org Server 1.6.4. On the hardware side were two AMD Opteron 2384 processors, a Tyan Thunder n3600M motherboard, a SilverStone Decathlon 800W power supply, 4GB of ECC Registered memory, and a 160GB Western Digital WD1600YS-01S Serial ATA hard drive.

The AMD FirePro V3800 512MB (650/900MHz) and AMD FirePro V5800 1024MB (690/1000MHz) graphics cards were benchmarked against the Radeon HD 5770 1GB (850/1200MHz), FireGL V8600 1GB (688/868MHz), FirePro V8700 1GB (750/850MHz), FirePro V8750 2GB (750/900MHz), and FirePro V8800 2GB (825/1150MHz) graphics cards from earlier this month. Again, our tests included SPECViewPerf 10.0 with various view-sets, Unigine Tropics, and the Unigine Heaven benchmarks via the Phoronix Test Suite. Following those OpenGL performance benchmarks is our look at the thermal performance, GPU fan speed, and GPU usage.
