Further Testing Shows More Hope For ATI Gallium3D

With OpenArena when the resolution was set to 1920 x 1080, the improvements for the newest open-source code remained. In fact, with the Radeon X1800XT, this newest code was running at 86% the speed of the Catalyst driver. In OpenArena at 1920 x 1080, the latest open-source ATI code is an incredible 91% faster than the open-source code found in Ubuntu Maverick Meerkat, without any rendering issues. Overall, with this game test, the Gallium3D code is about 81% the speed of the Catalyst driver.

Last week with the Mobility Radeon graphics testing the newest code was about 69% faster than the stock Ubuntu 10.10 performance with the ioquake3-powered World of Padman game. However, with these discrete R500 graphics cards in this test, the latest driver is more than twice as fast! This leaves the latest ATI Gallium3D driver at about 84% the speed of the proprietary but no longer supported (for R500 ASICs and earlier) driver.
