Trying The Configurable 45 Watt TDP With AMD's A10-7800 / A6-7400K
Switching from graphics tests to CPU tests, the A10-7800 saw an average system power consumption of 105 Watts with the stock TDP or 87 Watts when the APU was configured to its optimized, lower TDP value. But on a performance-per-Watt basis, the A10-7800 was still better off with the default settings.
While AMD A-Series APU owners can lower their TDP values through the BIOS if they really want a less power hungry APU or don't need the extra processing power and prefer perhaps a passively cooled system, the performance-per-Watt is measurably less with the 45 Watt value.
