Examination:

As we have mentioned many times in the past, heatspreaders on DDR2 is not entirely necessary due to the IC activity with DDR versus that of RD-RAM. However, memory heatspreaders continue to be used on nearly all "non-value" memory kits and some manufacturers have even designed some elaborate heatspreaders such as that found on the OCZ's GX XTC and Mushkin's new Redline modules. GeIL has placed some traditional-looking heatspreaders on their DDR2 Ultra modules with a twist when it comes to their color. Unlike the usual silver and black heatspreaders we are accustom to seeing, GeIL has colored these aluminum heatspreaders orange. Looking at one side of the heatspreaders, there is a GeIL holographic sticker displaying the memory specifications while in the middle of the modules is GeIL imprinted onto the actual aluminum spreaders and then on the opposing end is another GeIL sticker displaying that it is indeed DDR2 and the web address to their Taiwan website. The holographic sticker states the module is 512MB PC2-5300, DDR2-667, CL=3-4-4-8, GX21GB5300SDC, and that the modules were manufactured in their Taiwan facilities. On the opposite side of the heatspreaders, they are blank with absolutely no markings or stickers. After our in-house testing had finished, we had removed the heatspreaders. Keep in mind, removing them will void your lifetime warranty with Golden Emperor International Ltd. Underneath the heatspreaders we found the IC's to have labels of AMIE0539, U534H8G091A6, and GL2L64M088BA25W. Unfortunately, these markings on the parts are GeIL's and not that of the IC maker.
