Unigine Engine Receives Major Feature Update
Not only are Unigine Corp developers in Russia busy finishing up the OilRush game, they're still working to advance the Unigine Engine for their needs and those of their licensees. Unigine has announced some new work on the engine, which includes a Qt plug-in that supports nearly all of the widgets, sub-surface scattering support, and many other enhancements.
Details in full about the latest round of Unigine Engine updates can be found on their development log. Highlights of this latest revision include screenspace sub-surface scattering post-process, performance optimizations for PowerVR SGX GPUs, various renderer additions and fixes, an alpha version of a Qt4 C++ plug-in, a 32-channel sound mixer, plug-ins for 3DX Mac 2012, a SpeedTree plug-in, and updated documentation.
The Qt4 plug-in for the GUI supports most widgets and allows the use of both Unigine UIs and Qt interfaces. "The main purpose of the Qt plugin is to revamp and implement a new version of UnigineEditor with improved usability and the extended feature set."
Below is a screenshot provided by Unigine Corp showing off the sub-surface scattering support within OilRush.
As a reminder, we're also running a Unigine OilRush game give-away through next week Monday on Phoronix.
