Upcoming Open-Source/Linux Events

Running the first full weekend in February is the Southern California Linux Expo (SCALE), which is made up of expo booths and a variety of sessions relating to open-source and Linux over the course of three days. In addition, at SCALE 6x is also a series on Women In Open-Source, Open-Source Software In Education, and Open-Source Health-Care Solutions. Among the speakers for the main event are Jono Bacon, Ken Gilmer of Bug Labs, and Ken VanDine of GNOME. Phoronix is proud to be a media sponsor for this event and we'll be reporting from this event in Los Angeles. More information is available from the SCALE 6x website.
Coming up later that month is FOSDEM, which is the Free Open-Source Developers' European Meeting, taking place in Brussels, Belgium. Phoronix will also be covering this completely free event. We've previously written about some of the speakers and "dev rooms" at FOSDEM 2008, so be sure to check out that news article. X.Org also has some very interesting events going on in their development room. Lightning talk applications are still being accepted for FOSDEM '08 through the end of the month. More information is available from the FOSDEM website.
Sun Microsystems is also underway with preparing for this year's JavaOne. For the CommunityOne day, which was started last year (CommunityOne 2007), it's a free event that encompasses any free and open-source software topics. Their call for participation in CommunityOne 2008 ends at the end of the month. Additional information can be found at the CommunityOne website.
Happening in the two days prior CommunityOne and JavaOne is the second OpenSolaris Developer Summit. The first OpenSolaris Developer Summit occurred last fall and is centralized around the work with Project Indiana. This second developer summit was announced on the Indiana mailing list. Phoronix may be covering JavaOne, CommunityOne, and the OpenSolaris Developer Summit this year. Here you can find our coverage of JavaOne 2007.
The Ottawa Linux Symposium (OLS) isn't happening until July 23 of this year, but there is only a week left if you're interested in submitting a paper, tutorial, BoF, or mini summit. More information on OLS 2008 is at their website. Our friends from O'Reilly are also now accepting speaker proposals for RailsConf Europe 2008, which is happening this September in Berlin.
We'll also be covering the 2nd Linux Foundation Collaboration Summit this April. For coverage of the numerous past events we've covered at Phoronix, check out our events page.
