Broadwell Graphics, HDMI 4K & Other Features Land In DragonFlyBSD
Earlier this month we wrote about DragonFlyBSD having experimental Broadwell graphics support and now this updated DRM driver code has landed in the BSD distribution. Besides supporting the new Intel Broadwell HD/Iris Graphics, there's also a number of other new features.
This week's landing of the updated DragonFlyBSD DRM code puts the state of the driver at par to the Linux 3.14 kernel. They're still numerous releases behind the upstream Linux kernel, but at least greater progress is being made these days in bringing the open-source Direct Rendering Manager drives to BSD.
On top of the initial Broadwell support, other changes include bug fixes for all Intel GPUs, stability improvements, power consumption improvements, Bay Trail support improvements, the L4 cache is now supported for relevant Haswell Iris Graphics models, HDMI 4K is now supported, and there's basic HDMI 3D/stereo support.
There were 22k insertions and 13k deletions of moving the DragonFlyBSD Intel DRM code to the Linux 3.14 state from its older 3.11 base. More details on this big boost for Intel DragonFlyBSD users can be found via this commit.
