Phoronix Test Suite 2.2 Further Expands The Linux Benchmarking Landscape

Phoronix Test Suite 2.2 "Bardu" provides an abundance of benchmarking capabilities and options for those looking to run automated performance tests on Linux, OpenSolaris, BSD, and Mac OS X platforms.

Chicago, IL -- November 16, 2009 -- Continuing in the tradition of providing feature-rich, quarterly updates to the Phoronix Test Suite, Phoronix Media has announced the immediate availability of Phoronix Test Suite 2.2 (codenamed "Bardu"). Phoronix Test Suite 2.2 continues to expand the capabilities and feature set for this open-source testing framework with the introduction of many new features, a new graphical user-interface, numerous new test profiles and suites, and a public beta of the Phoromatic remote test management system.

Version 2.2 of the Phoronix Test Suite features automated regression tracking support via the introduction of a Git bisecting module, test recovery support, statistical significance verification, anonymous usage reporting, support for multiple display modes, network proxy support, and significant revisions and usability improvements to the graphical user-interface. Newly supported operating systems by the Phoronix Test Suite 2.2 release include Mac OS X 10.6, FreeBSD 8.0, Ubuntu 9.10, Fedora 12, SuSE Linux 11.2, and early-look support for OpenSolaris 2010.02.

"Organizations around the world continue to adopt and deploy the Phoronix Test Suite for their internal hardware and software testing needs at a vigorous pace," said Michael Larabel, founder of Phoronix Media and the lead architect of the Phoronix Test Suite. "We firmly believe that Phoronix Test Suite 2.2 is our best quarterly release and furthers us on our quest to deliver an open, standardized platform for which tests can be carried out in a completely automated and repeatable manner with turn-key deployment capabilities. Users of the Phoronix Test Suite have been especially interested in some of the statistical and performance tracking features that can be found in version 2.2."

Phoronix Test Suite 2.2 incorporates 120 test profiles and 50 test suites, while its feature-rich framework allows new tests and suites to be quickly and easily added for measuring almost any task. Newly added test profiles in Phoronix Test Suite 2.2 expand the capabilities for measuring a system's memory, disk, and computational performance along with new benchmarks for gauging a system's ray-tracing and OpenCL capabilities.

"Going forward we will continue to expand the robustness of the Phoronix Test Suite while driving our presence in other areas, including support for testing Microsoft Windows operating systems," added Michael Larabel. "Our first major release for 2010, Lenvik, is already well into planning and development."

The Phoromatic remote test management software is now also available as a public beta at Phoromatic.com. Phoromatic allows test administrators to management multiple test node(s) simultaneously within a test farm or distributed environment and to monitor the installed system software/hardware, schedule the automated running of test profiles on a set interval, and to analyze all test results from a private, central repository via a web-based interface. Phoromatic will continue to evolve into 2010 and will be available to enterprise customers of the Phoronix Test Suite for LAN / intranet installations.

Phoronix Test Suite 2.2 is available for download from Phoronix-Test-Suite.com. A detailed change-log for the Phoronix Test Suite 2.2 update is available from the release history page. The PTS Desktop Live 2009.04 "Loderhof" operating system update featuring Phoronix Test Suite 2.2 will be released in December of 2009. Professional support for the Phoronix Test Suite and related software / services is available to enterprise customers. Community support is available via the Phoronix Forums and mailing list.
