The Threaded I/O Tester reiterated a small rise in performance for EXT4 on Linux 3.16 with this traditional HDD-backed Intel Core i7 Ubuntu system.

The solid-state drive benchmarks weren't too exciting when conducted on the Linux 3.16 kernel in an earlier state at the end of June while today's hard drive benchmarks aren't too different. However, in a few tests it does seem EXT4 is now running slightly faster than the stable Linux 3.15 kernel on this Western Digital VelociRaptor hard drive when using the default mount options.

If you've been running any disk tests on Linux 3.16, feel free to share your results with us in our forums and OpenBenchmarking.org.
