At LAME MP3 encoding, the results were quite similar between ReiserFS, JFS, XFS, EXT3, and EXT4.

The GnuPG file encryption was also handicapped by the P8600 processor with the EXT4 file-system still not having pulled through.

Turning to the Java-powered Bork File Encrypter, the differences between the file-systems became clear. JFS was actually the fastest file-system on the Intel X25-E SSD. XFS had pulled in second with Bork followed by EXT3, EXT4, and ReiserFS in last. Between the fastest file-system (JFS) and the slowest (ReiserFS) there was about a 16% difference.
