The dual Xeon Platinum 8280 came out well ahead of the dual EPYC 7601 server in the NAMD scientific benchmark.

At least for now until EPYC 2 processors hit, in some of the single-threaded cases like Node.js the Xeon Scalable architecture wins hands down.

While the POWER9 CPUs are popular with some Linux users for having the possibility of a fully open-source computer when paired with the likes of the Raptor Talos II, in most of the tests the performance of this 176-thread POWER9 server was not competitive with the tested Xeon Scalable and EPYC hardware.
