While FreeBSD 12.1 has libomp added to its base for OpenMP support out-of-the-box with Clang, switching over to the GCC 9 compiler was still yielding better performance on GhostBSD and FreeBSD. Switching from GCC 8 to GCC 9 on DragonFlyBSD 5.8 was also of benefit.

Similarly, with the OpenMP-threaded GraphicsMagick there tended to be better performance when switching to GCC 9 but at least the BSD performance was fairly competitive with Ubuntu Linux.

With Rav1e as the Rustlang-written AV1 video encoder, Ubuntu 20.04 was delivering the best performance.
