Even when using GCC, the BSDs were slower than Ubuntu 20.04 for the Primesieve prime number benchmark.

Likewise, the simple C++ Smallpt benchmark was the fastest on Ubuntu 20.04 with the Core i9 Cascadelake-X processor.

Other CPU focused workloads tended to be mixed but overall the BSDs are at least more competitive with Linux in their current state compared to years ago.

DragonFlyBSD picked up a narrow win with its OpenSSL benchmark.
