While PostgreSQL is not a common process on netbooks, it benefited greatly running under Ubuntu 9.10. Ubuntu 9.10 on the Mini 9 had more than twice the number of transactions per second while with the NC10 its performance improved by just under 10%.

The Crafty chess engine ran slightly faster with Ubuntu 9.10 on the netbooks when compared to the Ubuntu Jaunty release from earlier this year.

Turning back to some graphics tests, but this time 2D, the GtkDrawingArea - Pixbufs performance had a huge leap in performance with Ubuntu 9.10. Between Jaunty and Karmic, the UMA Acceleration Architecture (UXA) became the default over EXA, which integrates Graphics Execution Manager (GEM) capabilities for improved performance and reliability. Many other Intel improvements for kernel mode-setting and DRI2 also went into Ubuntu 9.10.
