The time it took to compile ImageMagick 6.4.0 was virtually indifferent between an unencrypted and encrypted home directory -- at least with the quad-core system being used.

There's not much to note with the Apache compile time either. If you are using a slower processor and fewer cores, you are more prone to experiencing some slow-downs.

When it came time to measure how long it took to compress a 2GB file using Parallel BZIP2 compression, there was a significant delta between the standard user and an encrypted user. Encrypting the home directory had required an additional 12 seconds, which equates to being about 20% slower.
