Benchmarking Ubuntu 8.04.4 LTS To Ubuntu 13.04
Some of the NAS Parallel Benchmarks (NPB) from NASA have seen nice performance improvements with the forthcoming Ubuntu 13.04.
Other performance improvements for computational tests are more minor on Ubuntu 13.04 but still measurable.
When it comes to the system power consumption (measured on the AC side using a USB WattsUp power meter interfacing directly with the Phoronix Test Suite), between Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS and the Ubuntu 13.04 development snapshot there is a small rise in power consumption over the past year. Across the range of benchmarks conducted, the average power consumption last year was 153 Watts while now it's up to 159 Watts. The minimum power draw recorded on Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS was 131 Watts while now that's also higher with Ubuntu 13.04 with a minimum of 141 Watts.
Stay tuned for more historical Ubuntu Linux benchmarks looking.
