Total War: WARHAMMER III Linux Performance

First up was the most lax configuration tested: 1080p with medium quality settings. The Linux game port ran quite easily with even a Radeon RX 590 Polaris around a 60 FPS average in this basic configuration. The GeForce GTX 1070 as the "recommended" graphics card was running TWW3's built-in benchmark at around a 68 FPS average. While in some Linux games the RADV driver has a measurable advantage with the RX 6800 XT at times under Linux even outperforming the RTX 3080 Ti and RTX 3090, that wasn't the case for this game port... Well, we'll see if any RADV / ACO optimizaitons come about in the weeks ahead that could benefit this open-source driver. (Low quality settings weren't tested since at least when initially starting up this testing, the game would crash when trying to initialize with low quality presets.)

In this basic configuration, the AMD RDNA2 graphics cards though did deliver the superior power efficiency with leading over the NVIDIA Ampere GPUs.

At 1080p with high quality settings, a GeForce RTX 2060 / Radeon RX 6600 were around the 60 FPS threshold for this Total War game on Linux. The open-source RADV driver was performing well against the proprietary NVIDIA driver.

Or with ultra quality settings at 1080p, the Radeon VII / RX 6600 XT / RX 5700 XT and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER were around the 60 FPS point. The Radeon RX 6800 XT performance was aligned with the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti in this most demanding 1080p game test.

At 1080p with ultra quality settings, the AMD RDNA2 graphics cards continued to show better power efficiency over the GeForce RTX 30 series on Linux.
