Rise of the Tomb Raider Linux Performance On AMD Radeon GPUs
Lastly is a look at Rise of the Tomb Raider on Linux with Radeon/RADV using the "very high" visual settings.
The Radeon RX 580 continued running great with these increased visuals at 1080p while the R9 290 / R9 285 were now more sluggish.
At 1440p with very high visual settings the Radeon RX 580 would still roughly be playable but there were some low dips for that Polaris graphics card though the Vega GPUs kept running strong.
Overall this title is a pretty good experience for the open-source RADV Vulkan driver on launch day and great to see how far the open-source Radeon Linux driver stack has come for gaming. It's also great that GCN 1.0/1.1 hardware is in fact working if your card is fast enough and you manually switch over to using the AMDGPU kernel driver. During testing I have no visual rendering issues to report with any of the combinations tested. Stay tuned for the Radeon vs. NVIDIA gaming benchmarks for Rise of the Tomb Raider on Linux coming up in a few hours.
