We haven't looked at a new Razer product since February of 2007 when reviewing the DeathAdder, but with products from the Copperhead to the Mantis, we have been impressed with their exceptional quality. The Razer Barracuda AC-1 did initially have some problems with Linux, but those have since been worked out with the ALSA Snd-Oxygen driver. Today up on the review block is a new Razer audio product and that is the Piranha Gaming Communicator, which is a headset designed for gamers with true-to-life audio quality and a noise-filtering microphone.

- True-to-life audio quality with superior clarity and bass
- Adjustable, noise-filtering microphone for clearer in-game communication
- Comfortable, ergonomic and adjustable earphones suitable for prolonged use.
- In-line remote control with convenient volume and microphone muting adjustments
- Single-sided cable for hassle-free usage
- Durable braided fiber cable protection
- Internet telephony compatible
- Compatible with most major operating systems
- Usable with CD, DVD and digital audio players (via 3.5mm mini-jack)

The frequency response for the Razer Piranha ranges from 18 to 22,000Hz and its impedance is 32 Ohms. The sound pressure level @ 1kHz, 1Vrms is 114 dB. The frequency response for the microphone is from 80 to 15,000 Hz and is uni-directional.

The Razer Piranha arrived in a large cardboard box that reminded us of older Razer packages and strewn across the front was a large picture of this gaming headset along with the Razer logo. Inside the headset was fixed to a molded container to ensure the Piranha arrives safely at its destination. Tucked below the molded container were all of the cables. Included with the Piranha Gaming Communicator are a quick start guide, two Razer stickers, Razer product pamphlet, and certificate of authenticity. Like many Razer products, the Piranha comes with the endorsement of many professional gamers.
