The first test up was DiRT Rally due to the Phoronix Test Suite's sorting algorithm and this first result left me really shocked when seeing the number hit the terminal... The Radeon VII came out ahead of the GeForce RTX 2080! The Radeon VII has been advertised as being a RTX 2080 competitor and is priced accordingly so, but didn't necessarily expect to see that same level of performance out of the launch-day open-source Linux driver code. With this OpenGL-powered racing game, the Radeon VII was closer to the RTX 2080 Ti than the RTX 2080.

But with the next test of the F1 2018 Vulkan-powered Linux-native racing game, the shock was a bit subsided though still impressive. With this Feral Interactive game port, the Radeon VII was aligned with the GeForce GTX 1080 and just behind the RTX 2070. Keep in mind the Vulkan game was running with the RADV Vulkan driver.

When pushing F1 2017 on Linux harder by running at 4K with medium quality settings, the Radeon VII still ran with ease and now the VII was mid-way between the RTX 2070 and RTX 2080.

F1 2017 could run on the Radeon VII with great frame rates even when at 4K with ultra high quality visuals while this new graphics card came in right in between the RTX 2070 and RTX 2080.
