AMD Radeon VII Linux Benchmarks - Powerful Open-Source Graphics For Compute & Gaming

For the launch-day Linux gaming benchmarks of the Radeon VII I carried them out using the Linux 5.0-rc4 kernel and Mesa 19.0-devel using the Padoka PPA on Ubuntu 18.10 x86_64. The NVIDIA comparison tests were done using their latest 415.27 binary driver on the same system.

The Radeon graphics cards tested for this comparison were the Radeon RX 580, RX 590, RX Vega 56, RX Vega 64, and Radeon VII. >On the NVIDIA side, the graphics cards tested were the GeForce GTX 1060, GTX 1070, GTX 1070 Ti, GTX 1080, GTX 1080 Ti, RTX 2060, RTX 2070, RTX 2080, RTX 2080 Ti, and TITAN RTX.

Tests were all done on the same Intel Core i9 9900K + Ubuntu 18.10 system and all of our benchmarks automated using the open-source Phoronix Test Suite. The AC system power consumption was also monitored in real-time by the Phoronix Test Suite and polling the data through a WattsUp Pro power meter in order to generate detailed performance-per-Watt metrics.

Going into this Radeon VII testing last week I really didn't know what to expect, but after seeing the hot benchmarks, I was genuinely very impressed by the open-source launch-day Linux performance of the Radeon VII. Here are the numbers.
